This is Progress

In spite of a miserable weekend (or maybe *because* of it), I accomplished a great deal this weekend, making progress on 5 parts of Nigella's ensemble.

  • Skirt - Altogether together. It still needs a little hand work to whip stitch the French seams, where the machine couldn't manage the hem stitch. Also needs buttons and button hole. 1880's directions call for hooks and eyes, but I have some antique shell buttons that I want to show off. Tonight will finish it.
  • Drawers - Yes, they were done. But not to my satisfaction. Evan wanted to go to the pool yesterday, and lacking any other handwork I took the drawers along and pulled off the lace. The ribbons and ribbon roses are done on one leg, and I have started replacing the lace on same. A couple more hours and the drawers will be done to my satisfaction.
  • Hand-bag - Done, but like the drawers, not quite where I wanted it to be. Changed the shape and the rings and added in the 2 tassles that I'd forgotten. Much happier with it. And I forgot to take a photo.
  • Walking stick(s) - One for me and one for Evan. Cut to proper length and stained, but his was still tacky last night and so I didn't mix up the epoxy to glue on the furniture. These will be done tonight. (By the $1 for ten latex gloves from the dollar store are worth every penny. Which is to say, not.)
  • Pistol - I know, I know. I said it was done, but it suffered from the same condition as the drawers. It just wasn't ... *tricked out* enough. Copper fittings are in process. Need epoxy for those parts, too.
Still to come:
  • Holster - Not yet begun, although I have assembled all the required materiel.
  • Glovettes - Call me crazy, but I'm considering a change from embroidered black netting to white leather and black lace. I have plenty of both in my stash.
  • Hat - I've decided to wear my black wool, but make a new fascinator for it. Easy-peasy.
